College Baseball: AASU 12, Mercyhurst 7
SAVANNAH, Ga. The No. 23-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates scored in every inning to open up the 2000 Savannah Invitational with a 12-7 win over Mercyhurst on Tuesday afternoon at AASU.
The Pirates (11-4) pounded out 17 hits on the day as every AASU starter collected at least one hit. Mercyhurst dropped its fourth game in a row and fell to 1-6 overall.
The Pirates and the Lakers were knotted at 7-all after four innings when Damon Moore came on to pitch for AASU and hurled 3 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up his first collegiate victory. Luke Carothers gave up three runs in one inning to take the loss for Mercyhurst.
Six Pirates had two hits on the day, including freshman Nick Snow, who had two run-scoring singles, and senior Kevin Bullard, who had an RBI double and RBI single. In all, 11 different Pirates had hits on the day. Mercyhurst center fielder Ben Wiand went 3-for-5 for the Lakers.
AASU returns to the field on Thursday, March 2 as they take on Queens College at 2 p.m. in Savannah Invitational action. Queens and Mercyhurst will play at Pirate Field on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
