GREENWOOD, S.C. - After blasting five homeruns to claim the first game of Thursday's Peach Belt Athletic Conference double header against Lander, 7-0, the No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University softball team needed 11 innings to defeat the Senators, 4-3, in the nightcap.
Armstrong Atlantic improves to 30-1 overall and 8-0 in the PBAC, while Lander drops to 20-13, 2-4.
Annie Sells (3-for-4, two RBI) and Crystal McCracken (3-for-4, three RBI) hit two home runs each, while Ansley Paschal (1-for-4, two RBI) smacked the other.
Sells (12-0) remained undefeated, striking out 10, walking none and allowing just two hits.
Lander's Stacie May (8-3) took the loss, striking out three, walking two and allowing nine hits in five innings pitched. Ashley Tomlinson, who relieved May in the sixth inning, went 2-for-3 with a double.
In the second contest, Lander scored three runs in the fourth inning to tie the game, 3-3. Brea Smith singled in Kim Claborn for the game-winning run.
Julie King (9-0) collected the win in relief of Maria Lopez. King struck out three, walked one and allowed six hits in 7.1 innings.
Lander's Brook Still (4-5) took the loss, striking out five, walking three and allowing nine hits in 11 innings.
AASU's Sells went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Nicole Weirauch went 2-for-5.
Lander's Kelsey Solesbee went 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI. Brooke Bedenbaugh and Kristen Griebel also went 2-for-5.
