College Softball: AASU 6-10, Valdosta State 0-0
VALDOSTA, Ga. (April 13) -- Third-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State, preparing for its weekend Peach Belt Conference battle with No. 2 North Florida, blanked Valdosta State on two hits in 6-0, 10-0 wins at the Softball Complex.
Pitchers Annie Sells and Julie King each pitched one-hitters in complete-game victories. Sells struck out 15 and walked five, while King struck out five with no walks.
Pitcher Angela Lauzon had VSU's lone hit in the opener, which included a 40-minute rain delay. Pitcher Nayda Cortez had the lone hit in the nightcap.
In the opener, Armstrong had just three hits but VSU committed four errors. Just two of Armstrong's six runs were earned.
The Lady Pirates did their damage in the second, scoring five runs.
In the nightcap, Armstrong scored five runs in the first three innings, then plated two more in the sixth and three in the seventh. Armstrong had 10 hits, three by first baseman Nicole Weirach, and added nine walks.
VSU goes to East-leading and No. 12 West Florida for a Gulf South doubleheader Saturday. The Lady Blazers are one-half game behind North Alabama for the last spot in the Gulf South Conference tournament.
