College Softball: No. 1 AASU 2-3, Augusta State 0-1

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The newly-anointed No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates swept PBAC foe Augusta State, 2-0 and 3-1, in college softball action at Pirate Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Annie Sells fired a one-hit shutout in the first game and added a solo home run as the Pirates took game one, 2-0. Sells struck again in the second game with a two-run blast in support of Maria Lopez, who pitched a four-hitter for the 3-1 win.

Sells struck out nine in picking up her 20th win of the season, while Lopez improved to 13-1 on the year with her win. Lopez struck out seven hitters as well to make the Pirates become the first team in NCAA Division II history to have three pitchers with 10 wins and 100 strikeouts in one season.

Sells had three hits on the day – two home runs and a double. The Jaguars were led by second baseman Jenny Davis, who had three of ASU's five hits on the day. The win for the Pirates was their 14th in a row.

The Pirates, ranked No. 1 in the NFCA Division II Top 25 poll released today, now travel to No. 22-ranked Columbus State to finish the regular season with a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 29.
