SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior Tavares Brown scored a season-high 17 points as the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates completed a Peach Belt Athletic Conference basketball doubleheader sweep with a 67-51 victory over the visiting UNC Pembroke Braves on Wednesday evening at Alumni Arena.

The Pirates (8-10, 5-3 PBAC) led by five points at halftime, 32-27, and stretched that lead to nine points on consecutive three-pointers by junior David Koncul with 13 minutes remaining. UNC Pembroke (11-6, 1-6 PBAC) got no closer as the Pirates pulled away, thanks to Brown's 17 points, Koncul's 13 and junior Cyrille Mainnemarre's 14 points. Junior point guard Robert Campbell was the main distributor of the wealth, dishing out a career-high 11 assists to go with his eight points and four steals. The Braves were led by Jay Bruer's 17 points. AASU held the Braves to just 37 percent shooting on the night and just 5 of 21 (24 percent) on three-pointers.

In women's action, junior Sonya Mintz and freshman walk-on Kristin Brewer each tallied double-doubles as the Lady Pirates (4-14, 1-7 PBAC) picked up their first PBAC win of the season, 64-63, over the Lady Braves, snapping an eight-game losing streak. Mintz scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Brewer – who had scored a total of 19 points all season – lit up the Lady Braves for 17 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs. Ginnell Curtis scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Braves (9-8, 1-6 PBAC).

Both the AASU women's and men's teams return to action on Saturday, Jan. 29 as they host Kennesaw State at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively, at the Sports Center.
