Catawba Defeats AASU In Women's Basketball, 57-44

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Catawba hit its first five three-pointers to open the second half, overcoming a three-point halftime deficit, to cruise to a 57-44 women's college basketball victory over host Armstrong Atlantic State on Thursday afternoon.

The hot start by the Indians (8-2) in the second half put the first erased a dismal first-half performance in which both teams shot less than 27 percent in accumulating just 35 points. Armstrong Atlantic State (3-8) led, 19-16, but a three-pointer by Kristin Wooten at the 14:01 mark gave Catawba the lead for good and sparked a 15-5 run over the next three minutes. The Indians hit on nine of 17 three-pointers for the game (53 percent) compared to just eight of 34 two-point shots (23.5 percent) while the Lady Pirates struggled all game long, hitting just 28.6 percent from the floor, a season low.

Sophomore Lori Green led the Pirates with 12 points, while freshman forward Dorthell Little grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Catawba placed three players in double figures, led by Lakai Brice's 14 points and Olivia Norred's 13 points.

The Lady Pirates return to action on Sunday, Jan. 2 as they host Georgia College & State in a Peach Belt Athletic Conference matchup. Game time at Alumni Arena is 5:30 p.m.
