Armstrong Atlantic State University was granted the Men's and Women's Peach Belt Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament(s) for the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. The addition of two more teams into the PBAC now brings the conference total to 12 institutions, making the tournament one of the biggest conference tournaments in the nation.

The conference will begin play in two divisions this year, North and South. The two key members, the University of North Florida and Clayton College & State University will both play in the South Division with Armstrong Atlantic State, Columbus State University, Georgia College & State University, and Kennesaw State University. The North Division will feature Augusta State University, Francis Marion University, Lander University, the University of North Carolina-Pembroke, University of South Carolina at Aiken, as well as the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg.

The 1998 tournament will be held at the Sports Center on the campus of Armstrong Atlantic February 20-25. The Women's Tournament will be held Friday, February 20th; Sunday, February 22nd; Tuesday, February 24th; and Wednesday, February 25th. The Men's tournament will be held Saturday, February 21st, Monday, February 23rd, Tuesday, February 24th, and Wednesday, February 25th.
