Garland Runs 2:12.63 In 800 Meters, Misses Qualifying For Finals

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (May 25) Senior Nikki Garland finished fourth in Heat 3 of the 800 Meters preliminaries in a time of 2:12.63, narrowly missing qualifying for the finals at the 2001 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track Championships on Friday evening.

The top two finishers in each of the three heats plus the next two quickest times qualified for the finals. Garland's time was .38 of a second behind the second-place finisher, Katie Chapman of Ferris State.

Garland, AASU's first track and field All-America in 1999, ends her Pirate career having qualified for three Outdoor Track Championships and the NCAA Cross Country Championships. She was a four-time All-Peach Belt Conference and all-South Region runner in cross country for AASU.
