AASU Tennis Teams Fall To Eventual National Champions In Quarterfinals
Quarterfinal losses to BYU-Hawaii, Lander end AASU tennis season

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Armstrong Atlantic State men's and women's tennis teams ran into a pair of national-championship caliber teams in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II National Tennis Championships and suffered the consequences, losing to eventual national champions BYU-Hawaii and Lander in the same round on Friday.

The Lady Pirates could not get a point off of BYU-Hawaii, who romped through the field for its second NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship in as many years.

The Pirate men's squad found itself down 2-1 to Lander after doubles, but won five of six first sets in the singles matches. Only Stefan Wirtz could close out his singles match, however, defeating Tobias Huning at No. 1 singles as the Senators won, 5-1, en route to its eighth consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship.

The AASU women's team finishes the 2000 season with a 17-7 mark, while the AASU men finish with a 20-7 record.
