AASU's Haynes Earns AVCA All-South Region Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Sophomore Sarah Haynes, the 2000 Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Player of the Year, was named to the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) All-South Region team by the organization today.

Haynes, a 5-11 middle hitter from Huntingtown, Md., becomes the Pirates' first-ever All-Region honoree in the 15-year history of Pirate volleyball. On the season, Haynes hit .333 with a team-best 364 kills and also recorded a team-high 100 blocks.

The Northern HS product also set the school record for hitting percentage in a single game this season against Rollins and four times hit over .700 in a single game.

Haynes and the Pirates finished the season with a 29-10 record and a No. 24 ranking in the AVCA/Division II Top 25 poll. The Pirates, under second-year head coach Alan Segal, earned the program's first-ever NCAA Regional bid and first-ever national ranking during the 2000 season.
