AASU's Zandrique Cason Earns Preseason Women's Basketball Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State junior center Zandrique Cason has earned preseason honorable mention All-America honors and is the preseason selection to be the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the Year in 2000-2001, according to the October issue of the Women's DII Bulletin monthly publication.

Cason - who became the Lady Pirates' first All-Peach Belt first team selection in women's basketball since 1994-95 - averaged 16.7 points and a league-leading 10.3 rebounds per game in her first season at AASU last year. The Tempe, Ariz., native was a two-time PBC Player of the Week and also became the first AASU player to average 10+ points and rebounds a game since 1991-92.

The DII Bulletin publishes preseason and postseason All-America teams and honored AASU men's basketball player Robert Campbell last season with second-team All-America honors.

The Lady Pirates finished the 2000-2001 season with a 10-16 mark, 5-11 in the Peach Belt Conference but are picked to finish sixth out of 12 teams in the upcoming season in a poll of the league's coaches. AASU begins the season on November 16-17 as the Lady Pirates host the AASU/Chatham Orthopaedics TipOff Classic.
