LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Junior David Koncul’s last-second three-point shot fell short as the Bentley College Falcons held on for a 72-69 first-round victory over Armstrong Atlantic State in the Disney’s Division II TipOff Classic at the Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex on Friday afternoon.

Bentley led by nine at halftime, 36-27, and stretched the lead to 11 in the second half, but the Pirates foguht back behind Koncul’s four second-half three-pointers, his last cutting the Falcons’ lead to four, 67-63, with 34 seconds remaining. After a missed free throw by Bentley’s Kevin Van Dam with 15 seconds remaining, the Pirates’ Donta Humphries drove the court and made a layup cutting the lead to three, 70-67. AASU’s Robert Campbell stole the ball from the Falcons’ Mike Mastrapaolo and fed the ball to Cyrille Mainnemarre, who dunked the ball and brought the Pirates to within one. Mike McNally made two free throws to give Bentley the final cushion and set up Koncul’s last try.

The Benedictine product scored a game-high 22 points to lead all scorers, while Mainnemarre chipped in 12 points for AASU. Campbell finished the game with nine points, six assists and six steals while Greg Favors added eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
