Zandrique Cason Named PBC Women's Basketball Player Of The Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior All-America candidate Zandrique Cason, who collected three double-doubles in three games this week, was named the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the Week on Monday afternoon by league officials.

Cason averaged 19.3 points and 14.0 rebounds in three games on the week, including two against nationally-ranked squads. The junior from Mesa, Ariz., had 17 points and 14 rebounds in the Lady Pirates' 61-45 win over No. 14-ranked Columbus State and had 18 points and 14 rebounds in AASU's loss to No. 21 USC Aiken. Cason hit 51.6 percent (16-of-31) of her shots from the floor and 74 percent (26-of-35) from the free throw line and currently leads the PBC in rebounding and ranks eighth in scoring.

The honor is the third for Cason in her career and first this season. A first-team All-PBC selection as a sophomore, Cason was the PBC's Player of the Week on Dec. 4 and Dec. 18, 2000.

The AASU women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, January 16 at 5:30 p.m. as it hosts Francis Marion in PBC action.
