SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team gave head coach John Marhefka his first home basketball victory with an emotional 68-52 win over cross-town rival Savannah State on Tuesday evening, completing the doubleheader sweep of the Tigers.

Junior Dave Pisarcik scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, while senior Willard Winn recorded his second consecutive double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Pirates (2-3) beat Savannah State for the third consecutive time. Senior point guard Donta Humphries added eight assists and seven rebounds, while the Tigers (0-5) were led by Marcus Boyd's 13 points and 13 rebounds and Toyian Williams' 11 points.

The Pirates opened the game on a 15-4 run and shot 54 percent from the floor in building a 35-21 halftime lead. Savannah State made it a 10-point game, 57-47, with 5:05 remaining on two free throws by Alvin Payton, but the Pirates pulled away, scoring the next six points in a two-minute span.

In the women's game, it was the Hodge show as sisters Shanetra and Shaletra Hodge led the Lady Pirates (2-5) with 19 and 14 points respectively in AASU's 69-48 win over the Lady Tigers. Junior Zandrique Cason added 12 points and nine rebounds as AASU won its sixth game out of the last seven against Savannah State. The Lady Tigers (1-5) were led by Sharmonique McDaniel's 10 points.

The AASU men's basketball team is next in action on Saturday, December 8 against Claflin at 7:30 p.m., then both teams travel across town to face Savannah State on Monday, December 10 at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
