Men's Basketball: AASU 90, Kennesaw State 76
Women's Basketball: No. 14 Kennesaw State 78, AASU 54

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team raced out to a 32-7 lead, hitting 12 of its first 15 shots from the field, and held on for a 90-76 victory over Kennesaw State in both school's Peach Belt Conference opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates (6-4, 1-0 PBC) shot 59 percent in the first half en route to a 49-22 halftime lead and held off a second-half charge that saw the Owls get within 12 points with 2:25 left in the ball game, but Kennesaw State (3-4, 0-1 PBC) could get no closer. Sophomore David Koncul led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, while senior Robert Campbell added 21 points, and seven assists. Senior Tavares Brown chipped in 19 points from the bench while Kennesaw State was led by Hala Kaufasi and Edderick Womack, who each scored 18 points.

In women's action, the No. 14-ranked Kennesaw State Lady Owls (7-1, 1-0 PBC) used an early 13-0 run to take a quick double-digit lead, then held the AASU Lady Pirates (3-4, 0-1 PBC) scoreless for an 11 minute stretch in coming away with the 78-54 victory. Amie Kane led all scorers with 27 points while Lauren Gaines chipped in 18 points for Kennesaw State. AASU was led by sophomore Zandrique Cason, who recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 15 rebounds, and senior guard Lexie Martin, who scored 18 points.

The AASU women's team is next in action on Tuesday, December 12 as they host cross-town rival Savannah State at 7:00 p.m. The Pirate men's team is off until hosting Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday, Dec. 22.
