Women's Basketball: No. 21 AASU 70, Kennesaw State, 69
KENNESAW, Ga. The No. 21-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's basketball squad edged Kennesaw State, 70-69, in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action at the Spec Landrum Centre on Wednesday evening in Kennesaw.
In a game that saw 52 fouls called between the two teams, the Lady Pirates (13-3, 4-1 PBC) got the deciding free throw from senior Vandy Noldon with 48 seconds left to come away with the one-point victory. AASU won despite not hitting a three-point shot on the evening and held the homestanding Lady Owls (11-5, 3-2 PBC) to just 35 percent shooting from the floor and only 3-of-19 (16 percent) from three-point range.
The head-to-head matchup of the PBC's two leading scorers, AASU's Tasha Washington and KSU's Denisha Ferguson, went to Ferguson as she registered game highs with 29 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out. Washington had 19 points to lead the Lady Pirates, while Noldon and junior Briana Milam each added 10 points for AASU.
The Lady Pirates return to action on Saturday, January 24 as they host Lander at 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
Men's Basketball: Kennesaw State 76, AASU 61
KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State shot twice as many free throws as visiting AASU in a 76-61 Peach Belt Conference men's basketball victory at the Spec Landrum Centre on Wednesday night in Kennesaw.
The Owls (15-4, 5-0 PBC) maintained ahold atop the PBC South Division standings by downing the Pirates (12-4, 3-2 PBC) thanks to 23-of-30 shooting from the free throw line and a 40-25 rebounding edge, the third straight game in which the Pirates have been outrebounded. Despite shooting 50 percent from the field, the Pirates trailed by as many as 23 in the second half and could not come from behind against KSU.
Senior Tim Brewer came off the bench to make 4-of-4 three-pointers and lead the way for the Pirates with a season-high 16 points, while senior Brian Bain added 14 points. Kennesaw State was led by Terrence Hill's 19 points and Reggie McKoy's 14 points and 22 rebounds.
AASU returns to action on Saturday, January 24, as the Pirates host Lander at 4:00 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
