Women's Basketball: AASU 84, Nova Southeastern 71

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State used a 16-2 run in the second half to break open a tie game and come away with an 84-71 women's college basketball victory over Nova Southeastern on Monday evening at Alumni Arena.

The Lady Pirates (7-6) went into halftime leading by just one, 39-38, as Nova Southeastern hit 53 percent of its shots and chipped away at an early 31-18 lead by AASU. After intermission, however, it was all Lady Pirates, sparked by senior Michelle Hubbard's 15 second-half points on five-of-eight shooting, including three-of-four three-pointers. Hubbard, who was honored in a pre-game ceremony for reaching the 1,000 point plateau in the Lady Pirates' last game at Lander, finished the game with 15 points and five assists.

Sophomore Zandrique Cason led the Lady Pirates with 20 points and 12 rebounds, her 12th double-double of the year. Junior guard Lexie Martin chipped in 12 points as AASU won its third straight game of the season. Nova Southeastern (6-10) was led by Meghanne Hickey's game-high 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field, including 6-of-11 three-pointers. Tahaji Felder added 11 points and Jennifer Heath chipped in 10 points for the Knights.

The Lady Pirates are next in action on Saturday, January 13 as they host No. 5-ranked Columbus State at 2:00 p.m.
