KENNESAW, Ga. Golden Ingle opened overtime with a three-point basket, leading the Kennesaw State Owls to an 82-76 victory over the visiting Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates on Saturday evening, earning a PBC doubleheader sweep.
Ingle's three gave the Owls a 73-70 lead in the extra period and two free throws by Hala Kaufusi put Kennesaw State up by five points with a minute and a half gone in overtime. AASU could not cut to within less than three points as they shot just 2-of-7 from the field in overtime in losing its fourth straight game. Edderick Womack led all scorers for the Owls with 28 points, while Ingle added 21 points and nine assists. AASU placed five players in double figures, led by senior Donta Humphries' 15 points and junior Lamarr Chears' 12 points off of the bench.
In the women's game, the Kennesaw State Lady Owls held on for a three-point victory over the Lady Pirates, 72-69, for KSU's 11th straight win over AASU. In the game, Lady Pirate senior Lexie Martin recorded her 1,000th career point with, becoming just the sixth AASU women's basketball player to reach that plateau. Martin finished the game with 10 points, while junior Zandrique Cason led all players with 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. Denisha Ferguson led the Lady Owls with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The Pirate basketball teams return to action on Monday, February 4 as they conclude their three-game road trip at Clayton State for doubleheader action beginning at 5:30 p.m.
