SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team set a school record with its 12th consecutive win, defeating Georgia College & State, 67-66, and earning a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader split with the Bobcats on Monday evening.

The Pirates (19-5, 11-0 PBC) also set a school record for best conference start with its 11-0 mark in Peach Belt play this season. AASU also clinched the No. 1 seed from the South Division in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference tournament with the victory.

AASU trailed by four at halftime, 34-30, and the Pirates were down by six points, 66-60, with 2:15 left in the ballgame, but a free throw by senior Robert Campbell and a layup by senior Tavares Brown cut the lead to three with 1:29 left. Junior Donta Humphries got a steal and was fouled, then sank two free throws to cut the GC&SU (7-12, 3-7 PBC) lead to just one. Junior Mick Jordan then came up with a steal and was fouled, sinking his two free throws with 50 seconds left to put the Pirates up by one, 67-66. GC&SU had two shots in the final 20 seconds to try and win but Duke Gibbs' three-pointer rimmed out and Chris Nelson's baseline try also missed as time expired.

Junior Greg Favors led the Pirates with 12 points and 10 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the season, and senior Cyrille Mainnemarre added 12 points. Nelson led GC&SU with 18 points.

In women's action, the Georgia College & State Lady Bobcats won their 12th straight over Armstrong Atlantic State with an 83-67 victory. Beth Heyer scored a career-high 27 points on the evening to lead GC&SU (12-7, 6-3 PBC) while AASU (8-13, 3-8 PBC) was led by sophomore Zandrique Cason's 18 points.

GC&SU opened the game on a 16-2 run, but the Lady Pirates closed the gap to six at halftime, 36-30. In the second half it was all Lady Bobcats, however, as GC&SU shot 53 percent from the floor and held the Lady Pirates to just 25 percent shooting. Heyer hit 9-of-13 shots from the floor, including two-of-three from three-point range, en route to her game-high 27. Shemika Turner added 17 points for the Lady Bobcats, while Lexie Martin and Kristin Brewer chipped in 11 each for AASU.
