AASU's Campbell Earns NABC First-Team All-District Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior guard Robert Campbell, the two-time Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, took one step closer to earning back-to-back All-America honors as well on Thursday as he was named to the NABC/Chevrolet Division II All-District First Team in the South Atlantic Region.

The Hinesville, Ga., native joins Johnson C. Smith's Wylie Petty, Lenoir-Rhyne's Daniel Willis, Wingate University's Djuan Hankins and Augusta State's Festus Hawkins on the South Atlantic Region first team.

Campbell, who also earned First-Team All-Peach Belt Conference, All-Peach Belt Conference Tournament honors and Daktronics All-South Atlantic Region Second Team honors this year, helped the Pirates to a school record-tying 25 wins and their second Peach Belt Conference championship and NCAA Tournament bid. The Peach Belt Conference's all-time leader in steals and assists, Campbell averaged 15.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.4 steals per game this season.

The four-year senior also ranks second all-time in steals in NCAA Division II, finishing his career with 357 thefts, four shy of the all-time mark. Campbell becomes only the second player in AASU history to earn NABC All-District honors twice, joining Mike Pringle, who was a back-to-back All-District honoree in 1978-79 and 1979-80.

Named to the second team were fellow PBC players Gary Boodnikoff (Augusta State) and Simon Moore (Lander), as well as Rob Williams (Winston-Salem State), Nedzad Gusic (Catawba) and Shingler Lemans (Johnson C. Smith).

Voting for the NABC/Oldsmobile Division II All-District Teams was conducted by NABC-member coaches and 80 student-athletes overall were honored in eight districts. Players selected are now eligible for the NABC/Oldsmobile Division II All-America team, to be announced at the conclusion of the 2000-2001 NCAA men's basketball season.
