AASU's Mick Jordan Wins 48th Annual Dearing Cup
SAVANNAH, Ga. Senior Mick Jordan was presented today with the 48th annual Dearing Cup, given by Ashley Dearing to the Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball player with the best free throw percentage, in a ceremony at the AASU Hall of Fame room.
Jordan, a 5-9 guard from Sarasota, Fla., and Cardinal Mooney HS, won this year's cup with an 88.1 free throw percentage. The former 3A Florida Player of the Year is the first AASU player to win the Dearing Cup in two consecutive seasons since Greg Johnson won back-to-back Dearing Cups in 1987-88 and 1988-89.
The award was established by Dearing, a recipient of the AASU Athletic Hall of Fame's Service Citation Award in 1995, in 1954 to emphasize the importance of the free throw.
