Women's Basketball: Armstrong Atlantic State 79, Spelman 61

ATLANTA, Ga. – Sophomore Zandrique Cason scored a game-high 31 points as the Armstrong Atlantic State women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 79-61 win at Spelman College on Wednesday evening.

Cason also recorded a game-high 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season in the Lady Pirates' first five games. Junior guard Lexie Martin chipped in 19 points as AASU (2-3) shot 50 percent from the floor in the victory. Sophomore guard Kristin Brewer added 11 points while Spelman (0-5) was led by Nicole Bullock's 18 points.

A transfer from Liberty University, Cason is the first AASU women's basketball player to begin her career with five straight double-doubles since Renee Rice, the 1991-92 Peach Belt Player of the Year, began her Lady Pirate career with 12 straight double-doubles. Rice is also the last AASU player to average a double-double for the Lady Pirates in one season.

The Lady Pirates return home to Savannah next Wednesday, Dec. 6, as they host Spelman College in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
