College Baseball: No. 29 Armstrong Atlantic State 7, Augusta State 6

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior catcher Pat Daly's one-out double in the bottom of the ninth scored junior David Harriman with the winning run, giving the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates a 7-6 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Augusta State on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates (6-1, 1-0 PBC) jumped out to a 5-1 lead with two runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth, highlighted by freshman Ryan Chromek's two-RBI single. But the Jaguars (4-2,

0-1 PBC) climbed back into the game, using solo home runs by Chris Cooper and Matt May and a two-run sixth inning to chase AASU starter B.J. Brinkmeier.

Augusta State tied the game in the top of the seventh on Josh Corr's two-out RBI single, then took a 6-5 lead in the eighth when AASU reliever Andrew Moss balked home Will Foskey, giving the Jaguars their first lead of the game. The Pirates responded in the bottom of the eighth with the tying run as Chromek drove in Jason Pruitt on a sacrifice fly, setting up Daly's ninth-inning heroics.

Moss (1-0) threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season. Augusta State's Marty Bruce took the loss despite giving up two unearned runs and four hits in four innings of work.

Chromek led the way for the Pirates by going 4-for-4 with three RBI. Rob Mills and Chris Boaen also picked up two hits apiece for AASU, while Augusta State was led by Josh Corr's three hits and John Graham and Matt May's two hits apiece.

The Pirates and the Jaguars play a doubleheader on Sunday, February 11 at Noon as they wrap up their Peach Belt Conference series.
