College Baseball: AASU 14, Felician 4
SAVANNAH, Ga. Junior Chase Leatherwood hurled six innings of one-hit ball and sophomore Brad Bohannon collected three hits and five RBI as the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates opened the 2005 season with a 14-4 victory over Felician College on Friday afternoon at Pirate Field.
The Pirates (1-0) pounded out 12 hits and took an 8-0 lead in the first five innings against the Golden Falcons (0-1), while Leatherwood faced the minimum over six innings. The junior righthander sruck out six and allowed just one hit, a single in the third inning by Felician catcher Christ Flynn, in picking up the victory.
Bohannon clubbed a two-run home run in the fourth inning, his first hit as a Pirate, then added a basees-clearing double in the eighth inning for his five RBI on the game. Leadoff hitter Jonie Geiger also collected three hits on the day, including a leadoff triple in the first inning, and drove in two runs as well.
Flynn led the Golden Falcons with two hits. Felician starter Kyle Beard gave up five runs four earned and five hits in four innings to take the loss.
The Pirates and the Golden Falcons will meet again on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 1:00 p.m. at Pirate Field as they continue their three-game series.
