College Baseball: AASU 14, Felician 4

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior Chase Leatherwood hurled six innings of one-hit ball and sophomore Brad Bohannon collected three hits and five RBI as the Armstrong Atlantic State Pirates opened the 2005 season with a 14-4 victory over Felician College on Friday afternoon at Pirate Field.

The Pirates (1-0) pounded out 12 hits and took an 8-0 lead in the first five innings against the Golden Falcons (0-1), while Leatherwood faced the minimum over six innings. The junior righthander sruck out six and allowed just one hit, a single in the third inning by Felician catcher Christ Flynn, in picking up the victory.

Bohannon clubbed a two-run home run in the fourth inning, his first hit as a Pirate, then added a basees-clearing double in the eighth inning for his five RBI on the game. Leadoff hitter Jonie Geiger also collected three hits on the day, including a leadoff triple in the first inning, and drove in two runs as well.

Flynn led the Golden Falcons with two hits. Felician starter Kyle Beard gave up five runs – four earned – and five hits in four innings to take the loss.

The Pirates and the Golden Falcons will meet again on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 1:00 p.m. at Pirate Field as they continue their three-game series.
