FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 3-13-06
College Baseball: No. 7 AASU 4, Fairmont State 3
SAVANNAH, Ga. Senior Jarin
Lewis drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded
single with two out, giving No. 7-ranked Armstrong Atlantic a 4-3
win over Fairmont State in 2006 Savannah Invitational action at
Grayson Stadium on Monday evening.
The win was the 20th straight for the Pirates (20-0-1), but it
almost didn't come thanks to the Falcons (6-11), who scored twice
in the top of the ninth inning off of AASU reliever Vyt Rivers to
erase a 2-1 lead by AASU. Fairmont State's Zack Solly drove in
the tying run with a pinch-hit single, then an RBI groundout by
Mike Miskanin put the Falcons up briefly, 3-2.
Jared Combs began the Pirate rally by leading off the bottom of
the ninth with a walk. Sean Hotzak moved him to second base with
a sacrifice hit, then Truman Marek delivered the tying run with a
single up the middle. Fairmont State reliever Josh Kusich then
loaded the bases with two out, but Lewis delivered the
game-winning single through the right side for the victory. The
hit made a winner out of Brandon Stelter, who threw 2/3 of an
inning of shutout ball to improve to 2-0 on the year.
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday with a 2:00 p.m.
scheduled contest against Wisconsin-Parkside at Pirate Field.
