College Baseball: No. 29 AASU 14, Fairmont State 6

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State rapped out eight consecutive hits in the first inning, plating eight runs and collecting a 14-6 college baseball victory over Fairmont State in the final game of the 2005 Savannah Invitational at Pirate Field on Monday.

The Pirates (19-2) started the rally in the first inning with a one-out walk to Rob Recuenco, then the next eight Pirate players collected hits, ending with Jonnie Geiger’s RBI single that plated the eighth run of the inning.

AASU collected 19 hits in the game as every Pirate batter on the day had at least one hit. Brandon Stelter (1-0) picked up the win for the Pirates in relief, hurling three innings and giving up two hits and one run. Andrew Knight (0-3) took the loss for the Fighting Falcons, giving up 11 hits and 10 runs in three innings pitched.

Geiger, Jarin Lewis and Brandon Nunez each collected three hits for the Pirates. Nunez had a pair of doubles and drove in three runs, while Lewis blasted his first home run of the season. Ryan Lucas had two hits and four RBI, including a two-run home run in the first inning, to lead the Fighting Falcons (3-9) offensively.

AASU returns to action on Saturday, March 19, as the Pirates visit No. 6-ranked North Florida for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series, beginning with a 2:00 p.m. contest.
