JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida Ospreys (16-8, 4-5 PBC) managed to split Sunday’s doubleheader versus Armstrong Atlantic State University (19-3, 4-2 PBC) with an 8-1 loss and 6-0 win.

Three pitchers entered this weekend’s series without a loss and all three left with one. After Jeremy Olson (5-1) lost the opener of the series for the Pirates Saturday, Jacob Dixon (4-1) felt defeat in the first of two Sunday and Curtis Morrison (5-1) stubbled in the rubber match.

In Game 1 of the twinbill, both teams managed to put up a bundle of hits, but the Ospreys were unable to send runners home. AASU opened a 4-0 lead in the top half of the third with three singles followed by a Michael Pelley triple. Jon Dobyns (5-1) had only one hiccup on the way to his fifth win of the season, giving up a solo home run to Matt Oxendine in the UNF half of the sixth.

Dixon threw 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven earned runs to take the loss. Dobyns finished with eight complete innings of work, allowing 10 hits and one earned run.

In Game 2 it was all Robert Burris, who had a no-hitter going until the lead-off hitter in the fifth inning of the seven-inning game. Burris threw a complete game, striking out 11 and only walking one to improve his record to 3-2.

Oxendine led the day at the plate for the Ospreys going 5-for-7 on the day with a solo home run and four RBIs.

AASU is next in action on Tuesday, March 18, as it hosts Kutztown at 2:00 p.m. UNF returns to action Tuesday, March 18, versus Nebraska-Omaha in a neutral game in Ormond Beach at 3 p.m. The Ospreys return home March 26 at 7 p.m. against Valdosta State.
