College Baseball: AASU 7, Northwest Missouri State 0

SAVANNAH, Ga. – AASU junior Chase Leatherwood and freshman Andrew Whiggum combined on a four-hit 7-0 shutout of Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday afternoon at Pirate Field.

Leatherwood limited the Bearcats to just two hits and one walk while striking out 11 in improving to 5-0 on the season. Whiggum pitched the final two innings as the Pirates (12-0) broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a six-run frame.

Freshman Jonnie Geiger led a quartet of AASU players with two hits apiece, while also swiping three stolen bases. AASU stole a season-high seven bases in the contest as the Pirates extended their perfect start to the season to 12 straight wins, best since 1988.

AASU hosts Northwest Missouri State again on Thursday, March 3, at 2:00 p.m. in continuing 2005 Savannah Invitational action at Pirate Field.
