College Baseball: AASU 8, No. 25 Lander 3

GREENWOOD, S.C. The Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball team pounded out 14 hits Saturday afternoon to defeat No. 25 Lander, 8-3, in their Peach Belt Conference series opening game at Legion Field.
Armstrong Atlantic improves to 20-13 overall and 2-8 in the PBC, while Lander drops to 23-10, 8-8. The two teams will complete the series with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday.
AASU's Jon Dobyns (6-2) picked up the win, striking out two, walking four and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Lander's Nick Powell (4-1) took the loss, striking out six, walking one and allowing three runs (two earned) in six innings pitched. AASU's Michael Pelley went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI and Dustin Thomas went 4-for-4 with a solo homerun.
Lander's David Walton (1-for-2, two RBI), Ryan Roeder (2-for-5) and Corey Reed (1-for-2) all doubled. Jeff Whitfield went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
The two teams will wrap up their three-game PBC series with a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
