College Baseball: No. 11 AASU 8, Valdosta State 2

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior Chase Leatherwood hurled 6 2/3 strong innings and junior Josh Dallas drove in three runs to lead the No. 11-ranked Armstrong Atlantic baseball squad past Valdosta State, 8-2, in college baseball action at Pirate Field on Saturday.

Leatherwood gave up just four hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings, striking out three, in picking up his second win of the season. The Pirates (13-0-1) put together a 12-hit attack as Miguel Donate and Marc Noble also picked up two hits on the afternoon. A 2-all tie was snapped by the Pirates in fourth inning with two runs, then three runs in the fifth clinch the game.

Valdosta State (11-5) starter Chris Davison went 4 2/3 innings, giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs to take the loss for the Blazers. Chris Harris had a solo home run for the Blazers in a losing cause. AASU returns to action on Sunday as the Pirates host Concord (W. Va.) at 2:00 p.m. at Pirate Field.
