College Baseball: No. 6 AASU 8, Hillsdale 0

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 6-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State baseball squad won its 10th straight game with an 8-0 blanking of Hillsdale College on Saturday afternoon at Pirate Field.

The Pirates (22-3) got three hits from senior Rob Mills and three RBI from freshman Matt Stephens while four pitchers combined for the four-hit shutout, the third shutout of the season for AASU. Sophomore Nick Wells (2-0) hurled 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out four to pick up the victory, his longest outing as a Pirate in his career. Hillsdale starter Drew Cochran (0-1) gave up six runs - five earned - and four hits in two plus innings to take the loss for the Chargers (0-3).

For the Pirates, their 10-game winning streak is the longest since AASU won 10 in a row between March 13-27 of 1999. Speaking of streaks, senior catcher David Harriman, the PBC's Player of the Week, collected an infield hit in the second inning to extend his season-long hitting streak to 25 games. Going back to last season, Harriman has collected at least one hit in 40 of the Pirates' last 41 ballgames.

The Pirates are next in action on Sunday, March 10 as they host SIU Edwardsville at 2:00 p.m. at Pirate Field. It will be AASU junior Mike Roga's first start for the Pirates since he tossed the ninth no-hitter in school history on Tuesday when he blanked Northwest Missouri State, 1-0.
