Pirates Place Three On PBC All-Conference Baseball Squad

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State senior catcher David Harriman, senior right fielder Kirk Nordness and junior pitcher Mike Roga were named to the 2002 All-Peach Belt Conference baseball squad by conference officials on Wednesday afternoon.

Harriman, who set a new school record and tied a PBC mark with his season-opening 41-game hitting streak this season, earns the honor for the second straight year. The Surrey, British Columbia, native leads the team with a .410 average, 14 home runs and 68 RBI this season and ranks ninth all-time on the AASU charts in home runs (24) and RBI (121) in his two seasons with the Pirates. Harriman's hitting streak is tied for the second longest streak in NCAA Division II history.

Nordness, also an All-PBC honoree in 2001, is hitting .382 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI for the Pirates this season. The Beaverton, Ore., native ranks fourth all-time on the AASU batting charts with his career .387 average, and - along with Harriman - join only Steve Young (1992-93) as two-time All-Peach Belt Conference honorees in AASU history.

Roga joined the Pirates this season from St. Petersburg JC and immediately became the Pirates' ace, going 10-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 15 starts. The Pickering, Ontario, native hurled the ninth career no-hitter in Pirates history on March 5 when he blanked Northwest Missouri State, 1-0, and tied a school record with 17 strikeouts in that game. A Louisville Slugger Collegiate Baseball and Slam! Sports Canadian Player of the Week honoree this season, Roga has given up just 89 hits and struck out 105 batters in 99 innings pitched this season.

The Pirates wrap up their 2002 season schedule this weekend with a three-game PBC series at Augusta State, beginning with a single game on Saturday, May 4, at 3:00 p.m. against the Jaguars.
