SAVANNAH, Ga. Senior pitcher B.J. Brinkmeier, junior catcher David Harriman and junior outfielder Kirk Nordness were named to the 2001 All-South Atlantic Region Team by the National Association of Baseball Coaches (NABC) on Monday afternoon.
Brinkmeier earned second-team All-Region honors by going 8-3 with a 3.46 ERA and a Peach Belt Conference-leading 97 strikeouts in 101.1 innings pitched. The No. 15-ranked Pirates placed three players on the All-South Atlantic Region team for the first time since the 1998 season, when AASU had four players earn All-Region honors - catcher Andy Ysalgue, pitchers Jeremy Wedel and Sean Timmons and outfielder David Ruhr.
AASU finished the 2001 season with a 38-15 record and narrowly missed an NCAA Regionals berth, finishing fifth in the South Atlantic Region. The Pirates won at least 35 games for the 17th time in the last 20 seasons and won a school-record 10 straight conference games in April.
