AASU's Joey Davis, Cody Walden Earn PBC Baseball Weekly Awards

SAVANNAH, Ga. (May 5) Senior first baseman Joey Davis and junior lefthander Cody Walden were named the Peach Belt Conference's Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week by conference officials on Monday.
A senior from Acworth, Ga., Davis hit .471 with a triple, a home run and eight RBI in AASU’s 3-1 week. He set career highs with five hits and seven RBIs in AASU’s 10-2 win over Lander on Friday, including his third grand slam home run of the season and his first career triple. Davis leads the Pirates with 13 home runs and 55 RBI on the season, ranking among the top 10 in the PBC, and his 13 home runs are the most in a single season for an AASU player since 2002.
Walden earned the Pirates a berth in the PBC Championships with a complete-game five-hitter, beating Lander, 2-1, in Saturday’s first game of a doubleheader. The Tucson, Ariz., native tied a season high with nine strikeouts and also upped his league-leading pickoff total to 14 with a pair. Moved into 10th in the PBC in strikeouts and is also among the league leaders in innings pitched and wins.
The duo will head to the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Championships this week as AASU is the No. 6 seed, facing top-seed Columbus State at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday in first-round action in Aiken, S.C.
