AASU Baseball Signs Two Georgia Junior College Players For 2000

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State announced today the signing of two players from Andrew College in Cuthbert, Ga., to national letters of intent to play baseball for the Pirates in the fall of 2000.

Brian Allen, a 6-3, 175 pound righthander from Cairo, Ga., was the No. 1 starter for both years at Andrew College. He went 4-6 with a 2.29 ERA in 51 innings for the Tigers, allowing 16 walks and striking out 38 batters, as a freshman. As a sophomore, Allen pitched through an elbow injury that eventually ended his season, but still put up a 4-5 record with a 4.25 ERA in 55 innings, allowing 47 hits, 15 walks and notching 53 strikeouts.

Donnie Dill, a 6-0, 175 pound outfielder from Locust Grove, Ga., joins the Pirates as a sophomore after playing one season at Andrew College. Dill hit .333 for the Tigers and can play all three outfield positions. He was selected to play for the Atlanta-West team in the Georgia Dugout HS All-Star Senior game while at Stockbridge HS.

These signees bring AASU's total class to five. The Pirates signed two players from Jefferson (Mo.) College and also signed Dustin McGowan, who was eventually drafted in the first round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2000 Major League Baseball first-year player draft. AASU finished the 2000 season with a 37-17 record and a No. 25 national ranking.
