AASU Baseball Signs Two From Georgia For 2000

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State announced today the signing of two Georgia high school players to National Letters of Intent to play for the Pirates in 2000.

Chris Dentler, a 5-10, 170-pound outfielder from Conyers, Ga., hit .373 with 35 stolen bases in 37 attempts and a .475 on-base percentage as a senior while playing on an injured ankle. Dentler hit .447 with a .575 on-base percentage as a junior at Salem HS and earned All-Area honors as a junior and senior by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dentler also holds the Salem HS stolen base records for a single season (35) and career (61).

Brandon Wolcott, a 6-3, 195-pound outfielder and righthanded pitcher from Americus HS in Americus, Ga., hit .487 with five home runs while going 1-1 with an 0.64 ERA, allowing only seven hits and 11 walks in 18.7 innings pitched while striking out 34 batters. The four-year varsity player was the team MVP at Americus HS as a junior and senior. He hit .424 in his four-year career and had 147 strikeouts in 105 innings on the mound. Wolcott earned All-Region and All-Southwest Georgia honors twice in his career.

These signees bring AASU's total class to 16, with 10 players from the state of Georgia and 10 junior college transfers. AASU finished the 2000 season with a 37-17 record and a No. 25 national ranking.
