AASU Baseball Wraps Up 2001 Signing Class With Four Junior College Players

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State announced today the signing of four junior college players to National Letters of Intent to play for the Pirates next spring, wrapping up head coach Joe Roberts' 2000-2001 signing class.

Trevor Rurak, a 5-11, 180-pound middle infielder from Burnaby, British Columbia, earned All-Conference and All-Region honors last year at New Mexico JC. Rurak hit .471 last year with 21 doubles, five triples, eight home runs and 66 RBI in helping the Thunderbirds to a 39-13 record. His 29 walks gave him a .552 on-base percentage with a .762 slugging percentage and he scored 76 runs in 52 games.

Kirk Nordness, a 6-0, 185-pound middle infielder from Beaverton, Ore., earned All-Conference and All-Region honors for Lane Community College last year. Nordness hit .350 with 12 doubles, one triple and one home run with nine stolen bases in leading the Titans to a 33-12 record while competing in an all-wood bat conference. Nordness was a 34th-round draft choice in 1998.

David Harriman, a 6-0, 190-pound catcher from Surrey, British Columbia, was a second-team All-Conference catcher for Taft Community College in California. He hit .326 last year with 10 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 27 RBI in 38 games, while posting 23 walks for a .424 on-base percentage.

Kyle Murdock, a 6-1, 190-pound righthanded pitcher from San Jose, Calif., who was at Mission College in California last year, went 5-1 in 15 games, pitching 46 innings and allowing 41 hits, 35 walks and striking out 50 batters for a 4.89 ERA. The Saints were 29-12 last season and were the No. 4-ranked team in the Northern Conference.

These signees bring AASU's total class to 20, with 10 players from the state of Georgia and 14 junior college transfers. AASU finished the 2000 season with a 37-17 record and a No. 25 national ranking.
