Men's Basketball Standout Robert Campbell Adds More Awards To Mantle

DII Bulletin and Atlanta Tip-Off Club To Honor AASU's Outstanding Junior

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior guard Robert Campbell, the Peach Belt Athletic Conference's Player of the Year for 1999-2000, has been named to the Division II Bulletin All-America Fourth Team by the publication, and will also be named the Atlanta Tip-Off Club's Georgia DII Player of the Year at the club's annual Naismith Awards Banquet on Saturday, April 8.

The Hinesville, Ga., native becomes the first AASU men's basketball player to earn All-America honors since Tommy Blackshear was named honorable mention All-America in 1983-84 by the NABC. Campbell was the only PBAC player named to the Division II Bulletin's All-America squads this season.

Campbell is the third AASU player to be honored by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club as his division's Georgia Player of the Year, and the first to be named since AASU joined the NCAA's Division II following the 1987-88 season. In 1978-79, Mike Pringle was named Georgia's NAIA Player of the Year for the Pirates, and in 1981-82, Ray Smith earned the honor for Armstrong.

A junior, Campbell led the Pirates in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game, and in assists and steals, averaging 5.8 and 3.2 per game. Campbell, who has also earned First-Team All-PBAC honors, NABC All-District Second Team honors and Daktronics All-Region Second Team honors this year, helped the Pirates to a 16-13 season and led them to the PBAC Tournament championship game.
