AASU Golf Team Earns NCAA Championships Berth
SAVANNAH, Ga. The No. 19-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State men's golf team earned its first NCAA Championships berth in school history on Friday evening as the championship field was announced. The Pirates will be a participant in the Atlantic/Southeast Super Regional from May 6-8.
The Pirates, who are coming off of a second-place finish at the Peach Belt Conference Championships, are the No. 5 seed in the Southeast Region and join five other Peach Belt Conference teams in the region field. USC Aiken, Francis Marion, GC&SU, Columbus State and Kennesaw State also received regional berths from the conference.
The Atlantic/Southeast Super Regional will feature 18 teams and will take place at North Shore Golf Club in Sneads Ferry, N.C., hosted by the top seed in the Atlantic region, Pfeiffer University.
Armstrong Atlantic State reinstated its intercollegiate golf program under head coach Michael Butler last season and has achieved its first national ranking, captured its first tournament title and achieved its highest conference finish all this season.
The top two teams from the Atlantic/Southeast Super Regional will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships at the Mission Inn Golf Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., on May 21-24.
