Travis Kelly, Bill Faith Sign With AASU Golf
Freshmen Become Revived AASU Golf Program's First Signees
SAVANNAH, Ga. Armstrong Atlantic State head golf coach Michael Butler today announced the signing of Savannah Christian's Travis Kelly and Dalton High School's Bill Faith to play for the Pirates' revived men's golf program, which begins competition in fall of 2000.
Kelly, a member of Savannah Christian's three-time Class A state champion teams, was a First Team Georgia Guardian and Honorable Mention Savannah Morning News All-Area honoree as a senior. The Savannah native was the medalist in the Plantations Junior Golf tour's South Carolina National in Beaufort in February and finished sixth in the Savannah City Amateur tournament in 1999. He becomes the first AASU golf signee since the program was reinstated in March.
I am counting on Travis to come in right away this fall and be a leader for us, Butler said. He has a great resume and plenty of tournament experience that I think make him a natural to show leadership early on in his college career.
Joining Kelly as a member of the Pirates' golf squad in 2000-2001 will be Dalton native Bill Faith. Faith placed second in the Georgia Junior Amateur tournament in 1999 and was a member of the Dalton High School's Class AAAA state champion squad as a sophomore in 1997-98.
Both Faith and Kelly will enroll in classes at AASU in the fall.
