AASU Men's Golf Ranked No. 24 In Preseason GCAA Coaches' Poll
SAVANNAH, Ga. The Armstrong Atlantic State men's golf team will begin the 2008-09 season ranked No. 24 as the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) released its preseason coaches' poll today. The Pirates, who have made seven straight NCAA Championships appearances, are one of four Peach Belt Conference schools who appear in the rankings.
Led by two-time GCAA All-American Chris Wolfe, the Pirates re-enter the rankings to begin the year after falling out following the conclusion of the 2007-08 season. Wolfe headlines a group of six returnees for head coach Michael Butler's squad, while the Pirates also welcome in three newcomers for the 2008-09 campaign.
West Florida, the defending DII National Champion, tops the preseason rankings, followed by St. Edwards, Florida Southern and PBC foe USC Aiken. Columbus State checks in at No. 13, while Clayton State is No. 14. A fifth league school, Lander, was among schools receiving votes.
AASU opens the 2008-09 season at the Kiawah Island Invitational on September 8-9 at the Cougar Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. For the complete preseason poll, visit the following link: <GCAA Top 25 Preseason Poll>
