AASU Men's Golf Ranked 12th In GCAA Preseason Poll
SAVANNAH, Ga. The Armstrong Atlantic State men's golf team has been ranked No. 12 in the Golf World/NIKE Division II Golf Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll, released earlier this week. The Pirates received one first place vote and 226 votes overall and are one of five Peach Belt Conference schools who appear in the rankings.
Led by junior All-America Chris Wolfe, the Pirates are coming off of a sixth straight NCAA Regionals appearance and AASU hosted the 2007 Atlantic/Southeast Regional at the Savannah Quarters Country Club. The Pirates failed to advance to nationals, however, and are hungry to return to the NCAA Championships in 2007-08.
Florida Southern is the nation's top-ranked squad, ahead of defending national champion Barry and PBC foe Columbus State. GCSU is fifth in the rankings, while USC Aiken is sixth. Lander is the only other PBC school in the rankings, coming in at No. 24. USC Upstate, who finished runner-up in the DII National Championships last year, made the move to Division I and is now a part of the Atlantic Sun Conference. <View Complete Poll>
The Pirates open up the 2007-08 season on Monday, September 10, as they travel to Kiawah Island, S.C., for the 2007 Kiawah Island Invitational, hosted by USC Aiken. AASU is the defending champion in the event, winning the title by eight strokes last season.
