AASU's Marie-Claude Ostiguy Earns GTE Academic All-District Honors
SAVANNAH, Ga. Senior Marie-Claude Ostiguy, a member of the Lady Pirates' No. 5-ranked women's tennis team, was named to the 2000 GTE Academic All-District III Spring At-Large Team on Thursday, as voted on by members of CoSIDA.
A native of Montreal, Quebec, Ostiguy finished the 1999-2000 season with a 26-5 singles record and a 24-6 doubles record and was ranked No. 18 in the nation in doubles in the final ITA/Division II National Rankings. Over a two-year career at AASU, Ostiguy has compiled a 53-10 singles and
50-12 doubles mark for the Lady Pirates.
Ostiguy carries a 3.92 GPA in early childhood education and was the 1999-2000 AASU President's Cup winner, given to the top AASU male and female student-athlete of the year.
As a member of the first team, Ostiguy will now be eligible for GTE Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on June 15 by GTE and CoSIDA.
The Lady Pirate tennis team advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2000, losing to the eventual national champions from BYU-Hawaii. AASU has been ranked in the top five in the nation each of the past six seasons and has won two NCAA Division II National Championships in 1995 and 1996.
