Georgia College & State Duo Dominate Day Three Of ITA Southeast Regional
SAVANNAH, Ga. Lilia Biktyakova and Julia Roudkovskaya made it an all-Bobcat affair at the ITA Women's Tennis Southeast Regional on Monday, each winning their singles semifinal matches to set up a dual for the singles title, then teaming to successfully defend their doubles title and earn a berth to the Rolex Nationals.
Biktyakova and Roudkovskaya, the No. 1 seed and two-time defending region champions, defeated the doubles team of Adri van der Wath and Jeanne van der Merwe of Delta State, 8-2, in Monday afternoon's doubles final. Biktyakova and Roudkovskaya advance to the Rolex/ITA National Tennis Championships in Memphis, Tenn., on Oct. 19-22.
The Bobcats' duo will also play for the singles title after picking up semifinal wins on Monday morning. Biktyakova, the No. 3 seed, won over No. 2 seed Michaela Kratochvilova, 2-6, 3-2, when Kratochvilova had to default because of heat exhaustion. Roudkovskaya, the No. 4 seed, defeated Delta State's van der Merwe, 6-4, 6-4, to earn a berth in the region final.
The singles championship match will take place on the campus of Georgia College & State University on Tuesday. The winner also advances to the Rolex/ITA National Tennis Championships in Memphis, Tenn., on Oct. 19-22.
