Men's College Basketball: AASU 61, Paine 60

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior Brian Bain hit 8-of-10 shots from the floor, including two three-pointers, to lead the Pirates to a 61-60 victory over the host Paine College Lions on Monday evening at the R.A. Carter Gymnasium in Augusta, Ga.

Bain's 22 points led all scorers as AASU (2-0) withstood a late rally by the Lions (0-1) on their home opener. The Pirates led the Lions, 61-54, with 2:30 remaining, but a pair of three-pointers cut the lead to just one in the final minute. Paine's Cervantes Boddy missed a lay-in and a tip-in try with six seconds left, and after Justin Wood missed the front end of a 1-and-1 free throw opportunity, Paine's Chris Jackson couldn't handle the outlet pass and the Pirates hung on for the victory.

Senior Daryl Williams added 20 points for the Pirates on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor, while senior Tim Black added 10 points off the bench on 5-of-6 shooting. AASU shot over 60 percent for the second straight game, hitting 23-of-37 shots for 62.2 percent.

Paine College was led by Maurice Campbell's 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor, including hitting both of his three-point tries. Boddy added 14 points for the Lions.

AASU will be next in action on Saturday, November 22, as the Pirates host Clark Atlanta at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
