No. 10 Cougars Down AASU, 77-61

COLUMBUS, Ga. (January 13) - No. 10-ranked Columbus State University broke open a close contest midway through the second half as the Cougars won their school-record 14th consecutive victory, defeating Armstrong Atlantic State, 77-61, in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball victory at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates (5-9, 4-3 PBC) played the Cougars (15-1, 7-0 PBC) close in the first half, trailing by just one, 35-34, at intermission thanks to junior Brian Bain's 15 points and a 50-percent shooting performance by AASU.

In the second half, the Pirates tied the game at 35-all on a free throw by Dave Pisarcik, but Columbus proceeded to go on a 19-4 run to take control of the game, 54-39, with 10:47 remaining in the contest. AASU could only get to within eight points the rest of the wayas the Cougars shot 56 percent from the floor - including six-of-12 three-pointers - in the second half.

Bain led the way for the Pirates with 23 points, while junior Dave Pisarcik added 15 points and seven rebounds for AASU. Columbus State placed four players in double figures, led by Jed Bedford's 24 points and Cedric Howell's 19 points and nine rebounds.

AASU will be next in action on Wednesday, January 22 as the Pirates travel to Francis Marion for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Patriots.
