Men's College Basketball: AASU 58, UNC Pembroke 40

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior Daryl Williams collected 18 points and junior Brian Bain added his first double-double for the Pirates with 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team snapped a two-game skid with a 58-40 win at UNC Pembroke on Saturday evening at the Jones Athletic Complex.

Williams hit 8-of-13 shots from the floor and grabbed six rebounds as the Pirates (7-11, 6-5 PBC) kept UNC Pembroke winless on the 2002-03 season. The Braves (0-19, 0-1 PBC) hit just 35.9 percent of their shots from the floor in scoring their lowest point total of the season.

The Braves started the game with a 10-6 lead, but the Pirates quickly took the lead on a Justin Wood three-pointer, 12-10, and used a 13-6 run to go into halftime with a 27-20 lead. UNC Pembroke scored the first basket of the second half to cut the lead to five, but 10-3 run midway through the second half gave the Pirates a double-digit lead, 44-28, with 9:54 remaining that AASU would never relinquish. AASU's defense forced 20 turnovers by the Braves on the night, while collecting 12 steals.

Matthew Hubbard led the Braves with 15 points on five-of-10 shooting from the floor.

AASU is next in action on Wednesday, August 5, against Augusta State at 7:30 p.m.
