Men's Basketball: Georgia Southwestern State 75, AASU 64
AMERICUS, Ga. Georgia Southwestern State senior Norbey Aragon lit up the Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team for 24 points on Senior Night at the Storm Dome on Thursday evening, resulting in a 75-64 Peach Belt Conference win for the Hurricanes. The loss snaps a five-game win streak for the Pirates.
Aragon hit 9-of-13 shots from the floor and as a team, the Hurricanes (13-12, 6-8 PBC) shot 56.5 percent from the floor and 54.5 percent from three-point range. Georgia Southwestern shot 56 percent from the floor in building a 37-25 halftime lead, then kept the Pirates at arms length in a testy second half of action. Three technical fouls were whistled after intermission - two on Georgia Southwestern players Shawn King and Adrian Robinson and one on the AASU bench - and in all, 42 free throws were shot between the two teams.
The Pirates (19-7, 10-5 PBC), who were making their first trip to Americus to face Georgia Southwestern since 1984, were led by Bryan Taylor's 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Jamaal Galloway chipped in 14 points. Three other players joined Aragon in double figures for the Hurricanes as Robinson chipped in 13 points, Sean Cowley added 12 and King notched 11.
AASU concludes the 2006-07 regular season on Saturday, February 24, with a 2:30 p.m. matchup at Columbus State.
