Men's College Basketball: GC&SU 74, AASU 65

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College & State University shot 51% from the floor including 65% from three point range to knock off visiting Armstrong Atlantic State University 74-65 Monday in the Centennial Center. The win, coupled with a Columbus State loss, moved GC&SU (14-6, 11-3 PBC) into a first place tie with Clayton State University.

GC&SU hit its first five shots, including four three pointers to take an early 14-5 lead, but AASU (16-5, 10-4 PBC) would battle back to get within a bucket at 29-27 midway through the first half. GC&SU went into the locker room leading 47-43 as both teams torched the nets. GC&SU shot 57% (17-30) from the floor, including 8-for-11 from behind the arc, while AASU shot 58% (15-26), including 5-for-7 from downtown.

The second half remained close, but the Bobcats would never surrender the lead. GC&SU led 62-61 with 7:31 to play and would go on a 9-2 run over the next seven minutes to take control of the game for good. GC&SU hit 25 out of 49 shots on the night, including 13 out of 20 from three point range, while AASU finished 46% (26-56) for the game after shooting only 37% (11-30) in the second half, including 0-for-7 from behind the arc.

Andre Smith came off the bench to lead GC&SU with 15 points after hitting four out of five from downtown, while Jeremy Mayweather added 14 points. Bryan Harrison added 12 points and six assists, while Aaron Clark had 12 points and three blocks for the Bobcats. Bryan Taylor led AASU with 14 points, while Tory Harris scored 13 points.

GC&SU travels to North Carolina on Wednesday to take on UNC Pembroke at 7:30 p.m..
