Men's College Basketball: AASU 63, Kennesaw State 57
KENNESAW, Ga. (March 1) - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team will head into next week's Peach Belt Conference tournament with a season-high five game winning streak after the Pirates' 63-57 win over Kennesaw State at the Spec Landrum Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates (13-13, 12-7 PBC) trailed by 11 at halftime, 33-22, but turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, forcing 15 Kennesaw State (22-8, 14-5) turnovers after halftime and holding the Owls to just 24 points for the come-from-behind victory. The Pirates opened the second half on a 22-10 run, then took the lead for good, 53-51, on a Dave Pisarcik layup with 3:26 remaining in the ballgame. AASU then hit six-of-six free throws in the final 23 seconds to close out the victory.
Junior Daryl Williams led all players with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, wihle junior Brian Bain added 17 points and senior Dave Pisarcik chipped in 11. Terrence Hill scored 17 points to lead Kennesaw State.
The Pirates will now travel to the PBC Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the South Division. AASU will face the No. 6 seed from the north, UNC Pembroke, in a first-round contest at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5.
